Released in 1991, the first issue of Marvel’s “X-Force” sold over 5 million copies – a record, later surpassed by the first issue of Jim Lee’s “X-Men” with 8 million. The original team included members from New Mutants, including Cable as a militant leader from the future.
X-Force was conceived by writer/illustrator Rob Liefeld. The team first appeared in New Mutants #100 (April 1991) and soon afterwards was featured in its own series. The group was originally a revamped version of the 1980s team, the New Mutants. An offshoot of the X-Men, X-Force took a more militant and aggressive approach towards its enemies compared to the X-Men.
