X-MEN: APOCALYPSE director Bryan Singer provided insight into the relationship between young Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) to Entertainment Weekly. Though the two are dramatically in love in the future, their initial meeting in 1983 was a bit different.

“In the beginning, she’s the last thing he’s interested in,” explains Singer. “When he first comes to the mansion, Scott’s blind so he can’t see her. Suddenly he gets some glasses and now he can see her and he’s like ‘Oh! That’s Jean Grey.’ Both of them are misfits in a way. Other mutants have settled in with their powers. This is all new to Scott Summers and he doesn’t like it and he doesn’t like school. And Jean she has not only has her telekenisis and her telepathy but she also knows inherently that something darker and more powerful is growing inside her and she doesn’t quite know what it is.”

Fans of the original X-Men trilogy will know that Singer is directly hinting at Phoenix, Jean Grey’s deliciously evil, super-powered alter-ego.

Find out what happens when the film comes to theaters on May 27th!

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE director Bryan Singer provided insight into the relationship between young Jean Grey (Sophie…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[15,43

post-38018","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-crew-talk","category-x-men-apocalypse
["GET
