The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences<\/a> today announced that 20 films are in the running for the 89th Academy Awards’ “Visual Effects” category.<\/p>\n

DEADPOOL<\/a><\/strong> and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE<\/a><\/strong> are included on the list!<\/p>\n

They will face stiff competition from other films, including: Alice through the Looking Glass, Arrival, The BFG, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, Deepwater Horizon, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Independence Day: Resurgence, The Jungle Book, Kubo and the Two Strings, Miss Peregrine\u2019s Home for Peculiar Children, Passengers, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Trek Beyond, Suicide Squad, Sully and Warcraft.<\/p>\n

The Academy\u2019s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the shortlist, which will be lowered to 10 films for the official nominations. They’ll be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.<\/p>\n

DAYS OF FUTURE PAST<\/a> is the only film in the entire franchise (so far) to receive an official VFX nomination.<\/p>\n
