GAMBIT<\/a> has been in development for quite some time at 20th Century Fox with Channing Tatum set to star as the title character. The project has gone through a couple directors and one of them is now opening up about why he decided to move on.<\/p>\n Talking with the folks at We Got This Covered<\/a>, Doug Liman<\/strong> (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity) explained his reasons, saying:<\/p>\n “I look for a personal connection to the movies I make and it may not be immediately obvious. You know, like what\u2019s my connection to Jason Bourne? I have a deeply personal connection to that movie because it\u2019s all about Iran-Contra and my father ran the investigations into Iran-Contra. In every story I have a personal connection. The Wall, you\u2019d be like what could this filmmaker from New York possibly have in common with these two soldiers pinned down in Irag? But The Wall is really about perseverance. It\u2019s about picking yourself up and you just keep going and that\u2019s something I have firsthand experience with. Not in war but in other aspects of life. With Gambit, I just never found that personal way in. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn\u2019t.”<\/p>\n Fair enough.<\/p>\n ‘Gambit’ is still expected to see the light of day at some point, it’s just a matter of when. 20th Century Fox originally planned to release the film in 2016 along with DEADPOOL<\/a> and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE<\/a>.<\/p>\n
