Did you know that X-MEN: FIRST CLASS<\/strong><\/a> director Matthew Vaughn<\/strong> was originally signed to direct X-MEN: THE LAST STAND<\/strong><\/a>? Back then, word came he left production due to “family issues,” then it later came out that he had issues with the script and making the film he wanted. Now we have a much more shocking expansion on his exit from the third film in the original mutant franchise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/strong>, Vaughn reveals that executives tried to fool STORM<\/strong> actress Halle Berry<\/strong> into returning by wooing her with a fake script that expanded on the character’s role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI went into one of the executive\u2019s office and I saw an X3 script, and I immediately knew it was a lot fatter. I was like what the hell is this draft. He went, \u2018Don\u2019t worry about it,\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018No, no. I\u2019m the director. I\u2019m worrying about this draft,’\u201d he recalled. \u201cHe wouldn\u2019t tell me, so I grabbed it literally \u2014 it was like a crazy moment \u2014 opened the first page, and it said, \u2018Africa. Storm. Kids dying of no water. She creates a thunderstorm and saves all these children.’\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vaughn said he thought it was a \u201cpretty cool idea,\u201d but quickly found out their were nefarious intentions at hand. \u201c[I went,] \u2018What is this?\u2019 [They said,] \u2018Oh, it\u2019s Halle Berry\u2019s script. I went, \u2018OK, because she hasn\u2019t signed up yet.\u2019 \u2018But this is what she wants it to be, and once she signs up, we\u2019ll throw it in the bin,’\u201d he said. \u201cI was like, \u2018Wow, you\u2019re gonna do that to an Oscar-winning actress who plays Storm? I\u2019m outta here.\u2019 So I quit at that point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brett Ratner<\/strong> would later take up directorial duties. Berry’s role in the film did<\/em> increase substantially compared to the first two entries, giving her more to do, but it’s pretty sad (and disrespectful) they would go to such legnths to obtain her…with a lie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’re not sure if Berry ever read that version of the script. In 2005, she told us directly<\/strong><\/a> about her wishes for Storm in X3.: “I have not read the script,” she said. “All I have asked, is that if I come back as Storm, she needs to be closer to the comic book. So, if they have in fact written her closer to the comic book character, then I\u2019m in. If not, I\u2019m out. I hope I\u2019m in though. I love Storm, and really want to be part of the last film.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
