I was like what the hell is this draft. He went, \u2018Don\u2019t worry about it,\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018No, no. I\u2019m the director. I\u2019m worrying about this draft,&#8217;\u201d he recalled. \u201cHe wouldn\u2019t tell me, so I grabbed it literally \u2014 it was like a crazy moment \u2014 opened the first page, and it said, \u2018Africa. Storm. Kids dying of no water. She creates a thunderstorm and saves all these children.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Vaughn said he thought it was a \u201cpretty cool idea,\u201d but quickly found out their were nefarious intentions at hand. \u201c[I went,] \u2018What is this?\u2019 [They said,] \u2018Oh, it\u2019s Halle Berry\u2019s script. I went, \u2018OK, because she hasn\u2019t signed up yet.\u2019 \u2018But this is what she wants it to be, and once she signs up, we\u2019ll throw it in the bin,&#8217;\u201d he said. \u201cI was like, \u2018Wow, you\u2019re gonna do that to an Oscar-winning actress who plays Storm? I\u2019m outta here.\u2019 So I quit at that point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Brett Ratner<\/strong> took up directorial duties, with Vaughn eventually returning for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/x-menfilms.com\/?page_id=462\">X-Men: First Class<\/a><\/em>. Vaugn and Berry would go on to work together on <em>Kingsman: The Golden Circle<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">When the story resurfaced this year, Berry responded: &#8220;Ya just never know the shady shit going on behind ya back,&#8221; she wrote in a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/halleberry\/status\/1842631728877429190?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1842631728877429190%7Ctwgr%5E833787462fdeaddcc1c3f1e24f3f3fc954787c63%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fx-menfilms.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D70564action%3Dedit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">X<\/a>. &#8220;Thank you Matthew Vaughn for bringing the dark to light.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">We don&#8217;t think Berry ever read that version of the script. In 2005, <a href=\"https:\/\/x-menfilms.com\/?page_id=1251\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/x-menfilms.com\/?page_id=1251\">she told us directly<\/a> about her wishes for Storm in X3: &#8220;I have not read the script,&#8221; she said during a fan chat. &#8220;All I have asked, is that if I come back as Storm, she needs to be closer to the comic book. So, if they have in fact written her closer to the comic book character, then I\u2019m in. If not, I\u2019m out. I hope I\u2019m in though.
