The Hollywood Reporter — After five years in development hell, 20th Century Fox have granted DEADPOOL a release date of February 12, 2016! The film will be helmed by VFX-wiz Tim Miller with Ryan Reynolds likely to star (no deal in place yet).
Reynolds first appeared as a version of the character in 2009’s X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. The major creative deviations from the comic book source material didn’t sit well with many fans, receiving major criticism.
Miller and Reynolds set out to make a faithful film, with a heavy R-rated praised script by “Zombieland” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. There’s no word if that script, which leaked online ages ago, will be used or if Fox will commission a new one and/or bring the film down to a PG-13 rating. Reynolds previously stated that he wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t made as they intended.
“[In] its current iteration the movie’s actually very small,” said Reynolds months ago. “There’s minimal impact to the studio, which is the way we’re kind of presenting it to them. We’re saying ‘Look, the budget is minimal. Therefore, can we do this the way it should be done?’ Which unfortunately needs a Rated R or it needs those elements.”
In a recent interview, Reynolds complimented “the power of the Internet” as a tool that can help the film get made after motion-captured test footage from the project leaked to rave reviews.
“The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while,” he said. “There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually, and it’s neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way.”
Deadpool is said to feature in the developing X-FORCE script as well, so hopefully that project will get the greenlight sooner rather than later.

Exciting news, and word is they’re sticking with Reese and Wervick’s script. We’ll see how true that turns out to be, but this is cause for celebration…
Finally! I’m not a big Deadpool fan, heck I didn’t mind if they don’t release another spin-off film. But this is a very good news for the fans! And hopefully the talk of “will Fox ever greenlight Deadpool” is finally over. And hopefully this won’t be a bad film, I have no clue about Tim Miller.
Ryan Reynolds is the only person who can play Deadpool. Im so pump when I heard this news and I want the bloodiest and hilarious marvel movie ever!
