Director Rupert Wyatt has left GAMBIT amid production schedule changes. According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the Channing Tatum starring solo venture was planned to start filming in New Orleans’ French Quarter in November, but moved to March after script changes allegedly increased the film’s budget, extending the shooting timeframe. This created conflicts with one of Wyatt’s future commitments.
“I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project,” said Wyatt in a released statement. “I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.”
The film was originally set for release on October 7, 2016. but that will most likely change. Fox already has DEADPOOL and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE scheduled for next year, with a WOLVERINE finale in 2017.
Josh Zetumer penned the script, based on a treatment by Gambit co-creator Chrs Claremont. Tatum is producing along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg and Reid Carolin.
Sheesh.
Just introduce Gambit in a X-Men 5 movie with the original X-Men cast members and call it a day!
I will buy that.
But I want a solo gambit movie too, we need more expansion, and solo movies will expand not just the universe but the audience too. The more spin-offs, the bigger audience and boxoffice for the XMen team movies. Thats the smart route.
