Is mutant mercenary Domino making her way to the big screen in 20th Century Fox’s developing DEADPOOL sequel? It appears so, if Heroic Hollywood is to be believed. The site reports the popular character will join (previously confirmed) Cable as new costars/adversaries/allies for Ryan Reynolds’ “Merc with a Mouth.”
Domino, real name Neena Thurman, is best known as a member of the X-Men comic spin-off X-Force. Created by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist/co-writer Rob Liefeld, she first fully appeared in X-Force, vol. 1 #11 in June of 1992. In addition to her exceptional marksmanship and hand-to-hand skills, she possesses mutant probability-altering powers. She often uses these skills as a mercenary, but has also been the partner, confidante, and lover of Cable.
This all seems to be leading up to an eventual X-FORCE spin-off, which has garnered much interest from Reynolds and “Deadpool” writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. “X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in,” said Reynolds to Filmstarts. Wernick agrees, telling Hey U Guys: “Getting in to more of an ensemble piece is something we would cherish. X-Force is beloved and we love it, and Deadpool is centric to that world, and we’d love to bring an X-Force movie into the X Universe.”
Director/Writer Jeff Wadlow had developed a screenplay for that property, which even included a unofficial mock-up piece of concept artwork. That version, however, appears to be dead in the water. With Deadpool’s success and the inclusion of it’s main characters, it’s only a matter of time before it’s brought back into development.
