Production on Hugh Jackman’s final WOLVERINE film is gearing up soon with director James Mangold at the helm. Superhero Hype believes it knows of one popular character that will show up. According to the site, mutant Laura Kinney aka X-23 will make her onscreen debut, joining Logan/Wolverine and previously announced Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier in an adventure which takes place at some point in the future.
The character, who was cloned from a damaged copy of Wolverine’s genome, was originally created by writer Craig Kyle for the X-Men: Evolution animated series before debuting in the NYX comic series in 2004. Like Wolverine, she has a regenerative healing factor, superhuman strength, senses, speed, agility, and reflexes. She also has retractable adamantium-coated bone claws in her hands and feet. Created to be the perfect killing machine, she proved herself a capable assassin working for an organization called the Facility. More recently, the character succeeded her “father” in adopting the name and costume of Wolverine.
If true, it will be interesting to see who producers decide to cast in the role. My top choice is “Kingsman” actress Sofia Boutella, who has the talent and physicality to pull off this complicated and badass character.
The film is currently scheduled for release on March 3, 2017.
what an original move to reboot the character. If true, this might be the coolest reboot / “recast” in movie history. Simply letting Logan’s Wolverine go, and replacing it with X23’s Wolverine.
