A new photo from X-MEN: APOCALYPSE (now in select theaters) has found its way online, thanks to @kjIIuazoldyck! The image shows (left to right) Lana Condor as Jubilee, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops.
It comes from the deleted “mall sequence” which focuses on the young mutants stealing one of Xavier’s cars and heading to the mall, where they watch Star Wars, go shopping and have drinks in the food court.
The sequence is expected to be included on the film’s upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release on October 4th; a related image was even teased in Target’s ad for their exclusive “Yearbook Edition” set.
The mall sequence was the first day in front of the cameras for the young mutant cast, including a host of background extras. Paparazzi snaps gave fans an early, yet unofficial, first look at the young mutants dressed in their 1983 attire.
Many fans got excited when official images began making the rounds. Especially fans of the 90’s animated series, which featured a mall setting in the first episode. A Dazzler album was also teased, which never appeared in the final cut.
One “Apocalypse” TV spot in particular featured a scene from this sequence, where Nightcrawler freaks out from a brain freeze.
Yet no signs of it in the theatrical cut…except the scene for the group exiting Star Wars Jean joking about the quality of third films in a trilogy.
Director Bryan Singer alluded to the sequence being included on the upcoming home video release; we might even catch an early glimpse of it online before then. We’ll have to wait and see how the thing plays out!
