David Leitch to direct DEADPOOL 2! Third film simultaneously being developed with another director.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that David Leitch (‘John Wick’ co-director) has closed to a deal to helm DEADPOOL 2!

As previously reported, the developing sequel lost it’s original director, Tim Miller, over creative differences. Miller, along with star/producer Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Resse and Paul Wernick, was an important piece of the team which brought “the merc” to the big screen.

Other filmmakers being looked at included Drew Goddard, Rupert Sanders and Magnus Martens, but Leitch won over the producers and the studio. According to the site, he met with Reynolds in New York and was offered the gig shortly after.

DEADPOOL 3 is also said to be in development, with a different director planned to tackle that while the second film heads into production (potentially) this Spring. It makes sense to think that Goddard, Sanders or Martens are potentially in the running for that gig too.

Sounds like we could get Deadpool in 2018 AND 2019.

X-Men comic favorites Cable and Domino will appear in the sequel, while their expanded team, X-FORCE, will show up in the third outing. A spin-off for that is also expected, as that project has been in development for many years.
