According to The Hollywood Reporter, visionary director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of The Caribbean, A Cure for Wellness) is in talks with 20th Century Fox to direct Channing Tatum in a GAMBIT solo film.
Pre-production on the long in-development X-Men spin-off is gearing back up after losing directors Doug Liman (in 2016) and Rupert Wyatt (in 2015) over creative differences and scheduling conflicts.
Last August, Tatum said they “sort of started over” on the script after the successes of DEADPOOL and LOGAN. Early plot details focused on Gambit putting together a team to complete a major heist, with Mr. Sinister as the antagonist.
Tatum is producing along with partner Reid Carolin and Simon Kinberg.
“Gambit” does not have a release date yet, though it’s likely being planned for 2019. Pre-scheduled dates for upcoming Fox/Marvel films include February 14, 2019, June 7, 2019, November 22, 2019, March 13, 2020, June 26, 2020, October 2, 2020 and March 5, 2021. Our money’s on February 14, 2019.

Fox is eyeing early 2018 to get cameras rolling on Gambit. Anyone who was claiming the project was dead? Time to eat those words.
