20th Century Fox’s THE NEW MUTANTS has been promoting the horror-themed X-Men spin-off at Comic Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil and the Argentina Comic Con.
Director Josh Boone, writer Knate Lee and Brazil’s very own Alice Braga (Dr. Cecilia Reyes) and Henry Zaga (Sunspot) attended CCXP to discuss the film with audience members and preview stunning new footage.
According to Universo X-Men, the scene “shows the five young mutants in an abandoned room of the hospital. The room has a chair and lie detector. They begin to play with it and take the opportunity to get to know each other better. All of them avoid talking about their past and their powers.
“Magik acts in an arrogant manner, different from the last trailer we saw. Since no one wants to talk, she decides to start and says: “My power? Killed 18 men. One by one.” It cuts to a scene of her arm turning into metal with an effect similar to Colossus in the first X-Men trilogy. She’s in possession of her soulsword, which holds a blue flame.”
Omelete revealed that Zaga explained to fans that his character suffers a big trauma in Brazil which leads him to being sent to the institution headed by Braga’s character.
Collider’s Steven Weintraub described the footage as having “a ton of action. Looks very cool and completely unlike any other superhero movie.”
Sounds excellent!
Boone also told the audience that they’re “considering making the second movie in Brazil,” which was met with much praise from the crowd. This might sound odd to the uninformed, but comic book fans know the location has significance in the future issues of the New Mutants stories. The group spends time in a hidden city in the Amazon Jungle of Brazil called Nova Roma. It’s also the homesite of future team member Magma.
If #NewMutants 2 ends set in Brasil, that would mean..#NovaRoma #Magma and #Selene!! 😱😵🤩🤩🤩
