Rising star Lamar Johnson briefly spoke with WWD about his role in writer and director Simon Kinberg’s upcoming DARK PHOENIX film.
Revealing that he signed a multi-picture deal for the role of an existing student from Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, he coyly says ““There are so many characters, so I’m just happy I’m able to be of service to one of them,” without revealing who he’ll actually be portraying. “I’ll be a part of the next [film], too,” he continues. “You kind of get to go on this journey with my character, so that’s a lot of fun for me, but also fun for the fans that love and know this character.”
XMF can reveal that while Johnson’s role is minor and he doesn’t have much dialogue, he does feature in a couple scenes, one involving him being terrorized along with other students at the school.
“I’m very blessed to have worked on such great projects with such a great cast, such great filmmakers,” he adds. “I’m an inspiring filmmaker myself, I want to direct — so to work with these people and to be able to just watch the process and soak in as much as I can on set, it’s just amazing to do. Because then I’m going to apply certain things into my practices and it’s only going to then elevate me.”
