Director Josh Boone’s THE NEW MUTANTS has had a hard time making it to theaters. Despite a smooth production and positive test screening results, the 20th Century Fox has been pushed back multiple times. Now with Disney’s finalized acquisition of Fox, many wonder if the film will even get a theatrical release.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, star Maisie Williams (Wolfsbane) confirms that she hasn’t heard anything on the status of the film.
“Who knows when the fuck that’s gonna come out,” she said. There were supposed to be reshoots to “make it scarier,” based off early feedback, but they haven’t actually taken place. She asked castmate Charie Heaton (Cannonball) “What the fuck is going on with this movie?” He didn’t know either. “Hopefully this interview will make everyone hurry up a little bit!”
Last we’ve heard is that Disney execs have to review the film before deciding what their plan is moving forward. Options include theatrical release or streaming, possibly on Hulu or the studio’s upcoming Disney+ service.
New Mutants is “currently” scheduled for release on August 2, 2019.
