The cast of DARK PHOENIX hosted a panel at WonderCon earlier today in Anaheim with writer, director and producer Simon Kinberg and producer Hutch Parker. Stars Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Nicholas Hoult Alexandra Shipp, Evan Peters and Kodi Smit-McPhee were on hand to show exciting new footage from the film and answer fan questions.
Footage shown included the opening space sequence which features the X-Men rescuing astronauts from their damaged space shuttle and another sequence where Nightcrawler teleports the X-Men to confront Magneto and his followers where they engage in an epic fight in New York City. There’s a good amount of teamwork in these sequences.
Thanks to Shawn Madden (@neddamnwahs) we have details of what happened during the event.

Saw about ten minutes from the start of #XMenDarkPhoenix which was excellent. Hopefully the rest of the film is that good. #WonderCon

It was very important for Kinberg to do things as practical as they could instead of CGI. They built an entire city block for a sequence in the film. #XMenDarkPhoenix #WonderCon

Saw another extended sequence from #XMenDarkPhoenix. The X-Men going to save Jean from The Brotherhood (with an X-Man) who are out to kill her. Might be the best action sequence I’ve seen in an X-Men film. (Teamwork.)

This was even BETTER than the first clip. Hans Zimmer’s score though.

Know a lot of people are skeptical but the two sequences they showed from #XMenDarkPhoenix are some of the best stuff I’ve seen from the franchise action-wise.

Oh and based on that footage: #XMenDarkPhoenix is not just X3 2.0. On to the next one…
