20th Century Studios’ THE NEW MUTANTS is featured in SFX Magazine and Empire Magazine with new behind the scene photos and quotes from the cast and crew. Fan page @NewMutantsUp has given a preview of what’s inside!
Ultimately, after all this time, I was able to make MY #NewMutants film, and I’m am proud of it. What I’m hoping for now is that it will be successful enough so the studio will allow me to complete a trilogy. I’ve got all planned out. – Josh Boone for @SFXmagazine pic.twitter.com/QW5Q97GgEF

Director Josh Boone confirmed that early drafts of the film took place in the X-Men: Apocalypse timeline and even featured appearances from Professor X (James McAvoy) and Storm (Alexandra Shipp). That eventually was dropped in favor of making the film a standalone in the legendary mutant universe.

Describing the tone of the film, Boone said (via @DrRossGeller_): “In terms of the look and tone, I would describe this film as being like The Breakfast Club meets Firestarter meets The Shining. It’s like a dark version of The Breakfast Club in terms of the dynamic that exists within this group. They have teenage problems to go along with the problems that their powers have created for them. The journey that they take is fun, gory, honest and it’s also really scary.”
