Illustrator and storyboard artist Anthony Winn shared “pitch mood boards for [the] canceled GAMBIT feature film” that was originally planned to expand the X-Men film universe with Channing Tatum as the Cajun mutant from New Orleans. The artwork shows Remy LeBeau in the field sitting on the back of a truck. With his eyes glowing red, he picks up a liquor bottle and chucks it into the distance, causing an explosion of kinetic energy.
Mood boards are just that; concept artwork made to set up the mood and vibe of a scene before filming takes place; it also helps to set up the shot. Gambit was in pre-production for quite some time, so there’s a number of artworks out there we’ve yet to see.
Described as a romantic comedy set in the world of mutants, the film would’ve seen Gambit clash with Thieves Guild — a secret society of criminals — and quarrel with love interest Bella Donna Boudreaux. With all X-Men character now under Marvel Studios, it’s unknown if Gambit is still in the future for Tatum.
