The OG X-Men: How it Started / How it Ended

Professor X

• How it started: We first meet Charles Xavier as he watches Senator Kelly trying to pass the Mutant Registration Act in Congress. Charles finds his “old friend” Erik Lehnsherr lurking in attendance, and has concerns for how Magneto will react if such a bill is passed. How it ended: Do we have to go over this? We’re scarred for life. While an aged Charles is lying in bed, he confesses to “Logan” that he remembers what happened during the Westchester incident. Problem is, it’s not Logan, but his evil clone X-24! He plunges his adamantium claws into Charles’ chest, killing him.

Wolverine

• How it started: We find Logan in an underground caged fighting match, taking out multiple opponents for cash. When one of them outs him as a mutant and attempts to stab him, Logan unleashes his claws – much to the amazement of a wide-eyed runaway called Rogue. How it ended: Fighting his evil clone, Logan is impaled on a sharp tree branch. Close to death, he tells Laura not to become the weapon that she was made to be. After she acknowledges him as her father, Logan dies peacefully in her arms.

Rogue

• How it started: In Meridian, Mississippi, 17-year-old Marie accidentally puts her boyfriend into a coma after she kisses him, because of her mutant ability to absorb the power and life force of others. Adopting the name Rogue, she runs away to Alberta, where she meets Logan, also known as Wolverine. How it ended: Rogue is shown in the new timeline, alive and well, with her boyfriend Bobby.

Jean Grey

• How it started: We first meet Dr. Jean Grey as she is giving a speech about mutation and evolution. She is debating Senator Robert Kelly’s attempts to pass a Mutant Registration Act, which would force mutants to reveal their identities and abilities to the government. How it ended: Jean is alive and well at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters with Cyclops after Wolverine altered the timelines in Days of Future Past.

Cyclops

• How it started: We first meet Cyclops as he and Storm attack Sabretooth, who’s attempting an attack Wolverine and Rogue. Finding Rogue struggling to get out of a burning camper, he directs his optic blasts at her seatbelt, freeing her. save Rogue from a burning camper in the snowy forests of Canada. Using his powers of optic blasts, he fires at Sabretooth How it ended: Cyclops is alive in the new timeline created after Wolverine changed history. They still don’t appear to be friends…

Storm

• How it started: We first meet Storm while she and Cyclops are on a mission to stop Sabretooth from attacking Rogue and Wolverine in the snowy forests of Canada. Using her abilities of weather manipulation, Ororo Munroe creates a fury of wind and ice before assisting Marie out of the camper she was stuck in. How it ended: Storm is alive and well in the new timeline, seen interacting with some of her students at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.
