DEADPOOL 3 halts production amid SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes; Marvel Studios responds

Marvel Studios

Director Shawn Levy’s DEADPOOL 3 has halted production in the UK due to the SAG-AFTRA joining the WGA in strikes, meaning union actors have joined union writers in protest. The actors cannot film or promote their work, and writers can’t produce content during this period.

The cast and crew have only filmed a little under two months of content at Pinewood Studios, and with no clear end in sight (studio execs are holding firm, even noting they’ll make writers and actors lose their homes), it could be a while before things recover – some suggest it could even last all Summer into the Fall.

Forbes has a nice breakdown of what happens when a strike takes place.

‘Deadpool 3’ is currently scheduled for theatrical release on May 3, 2024, and that was after the film was moved the film UP six months from its original date. With this significant pause in filming, it’s definitely possible that date could change – especially with VFX artists who are already pressed for time.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito sent out a statement to the vast amount of people working on their productions across the globe. It reads: “We recognize how much you’ve all done on your specific projects and it’s disappointing when carefully laid plans have to shift, but constant change is the nature of the production business, and our teams are no stranger to unexpected challenges and rising to meet them. We deeply appreciate all your efforts to make the best of the situation, and we can all hope that a new agreement will be finalized soon so we can resume the great work we have in process.”
