You probably already know what happened during THE MARVELS post-credits sequence by now, but if you don’t, a detailed description follows under the film’s poster. If you’re planning to head to the cinema, it’s best to leave meow. Still here? Okay. Were there actually any references to the X-MEN in this movie, or do we have to wait until DEADPOOL 3 to get some mutant goodness?
MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW!!!
Oh, my stars and garters!
Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) wakes up in a medical bay, supposedly under the X-Masion. She’s surprised to see her deceased mother, Maria (Lashana Lynch), alive and well. Only thing is, this isn’t the mother she knew. Looking super confused, Monica then notices a large, blue, and furry BEAST wearing a lab coat. Yep, it’s Dr. Henry “Hank” McCoy, voiced and portrayed by Kesley Grammer via CGI/mo-cap. He’s looking even closer to the comic and animated series, as you can see from his visible canines.
“How’s our mysterious visitor?” he asks. “My theory? You somehow crossed through a tear in space time. You are now in a reality parallel to your own, which is, of course, impossible,” he says with a grin. “Charles asked for an update. I’ll come by and check on you later.” Maria, a likely Captain Marvel variant in this universe, stands up and reveals an interesting costume. “Who are you?” she asks a bewildered Monica. Standing by the famed “X” doors, she’s presented here as Marvel’s Binary, wearing a costume that certainly evokes her comic book look. The character, a Carol Danvers duplicate, has an interesting history behind her, so best to read up on that here.
The mention of Charles appears to confirm that we’re not on Earth-838, as Professor X was seemingly killed by Scarlet Witch in DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS; same goes for Maria, who’s the Captain Marvel of that universe.
Is this truly the FoXmen universe we know and love? Could be, even with the differences in Beast‘s appearance and updated interior design. We’ll have to wait for more answers in upcoming releases like DEADPOOL 3, CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD (maybe – which is undergoing extensive reshoots), AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY (if it’s still happening), and the mega-event of them all, AVENGERS: SECRET WARS.
One thing’s for sure, it’s very eXciting seeing the OG X-Men actors find their way into the MCU.
