the SUPER🦸 — There were many great films released in 2023, but these are personal favorites that I enjoyed watching in the cinema. Do any of these match your Top 10?
1. Oppenheimer
So much perfection on screen. Christopher Nolan is an expert director. ‘Nuff said!
2. Godzilla Minus One
One of the best Godzilla films, where you actually care for the human characters and their story. The Kaiju has never felt more threatening. Great suspense. You really feel the power of Godzilla and how it’s a metaphor for real life horrors.
3. The Holdovers
An emotional and moody drama-comedy featuring a perfect trio of actors. This is a good film to watch on a cold day with a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows.
4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
An emotional ride about friendship, love, loss, and the family that you make. James Gunn closes out his cosmic trilogy with heart.
5. The Super Mario Bros. Movie
An absolutely perfect video game adaption in the eyes of this Mario and Luigi fan!
6. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Miles Morales is still a standout in the Spider-Verse. The creators continue to push the creativity of the animation. The only downside is this very much feels like the mid-section to a greater story.
7. Elemental
Has a good message. Creative CGI work. Excellent voice cast.
8. Talk to Me
Talk to Me spoke to me, and it scared me…a lot. It was fun. A film about loss. There’s still one scene I never watched in entirety, because my eyes were shut!
9. Beau is Afraid
This film is anxiety personified. Director Ari Aster continues to intrigue me. A sometimes delirious adventure.
10. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
Has a nice artistic look and vibe. The voice actors did great work. Such a mood. I appreciate the risks they took with the story and the outcome of the turtles.
