the SUPER🦸🏽: MADAME WEB Concept Art For All Spider-Women and Ezekiel

Sony’s Madame Web isn’t doing so great at the box office, but the film has its share of fans who think the Spider-Women costumes were one of the things it got right. Too bad they only appeared in the film for what felt like less than 2 minutes!? Artist Imogene Chayes recently shared some concept art of the suits, providing details that went into the mostly comic accurate looks for Cassandra “Cassie” Webb (Dakota Johnson), Julia Cornwall (Sydney Sweeney), Mattie Franklin (Celeste O’Connor), Anya Corozon (Isabela Merced), and the villainous Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim).

I had an absolute blast working on this project. How can designing super suits for a gang of hot ladies not be fun? I got to work with one of my all time favorite costume designers, Ngila Dickson, who really gave me the room to play with all of the style lines for these suits.

This is the concept art for Julia Cornwall a.k.a Spiderwoman, played by the lovely Sydney Sweeney! She is my favorite. We decided to stick with her bold, graphic style from the comics.

Concept art for Mattie Franklin played by Celeste O’Connor ! She was such a fun character to work on. I had a particularly fun time working with Ngila to flesh out the style lines for this suit, as well as giving her a cheeky attitude.

It’s our last gal! Concept art for Anya Corazon played by the prolific Isabela Merced (who I happen to be working with on her current project 🧟‍♀️🍄😉). Ngila Dickson again wanted it to be bold and graphic. Since, as many of you have correctly pointed out, they’re on screen for such a short time we wanted to make sure these suits had an impact!

Last one and that’s a wrap on Madame Web concept art week! Here’s our concept art for Ezekiel Sims played by Tahar Rahim. Plotting out these intricate style lines was a doozy, but very satisfying. Costume designer Ngila Dickson wanted them to evoke a binding effect.
