Are Hugh Jackman and Channing Tatum potentially teasing a Wolverine and Gambit reunion in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine? The two actors interacted on Instagram after Tatum complimented a throwback video of Jackman lifting weights, commenting with “Letttsss gooo daddy!!!!” Jackman then shared a story with a screencap of the comment, and replied to it with purple text; a trademark color for Gambit. 👀
Although Tatum never appeared onscreen as the mutant Cajun, the character did with actor Taylor Kitsch portraying him in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
As you may know, Tatum had long been developing a reboot of the character with a romantic action-adventure solo film under 20th Century Fox before it was acquired by Disney. Pre-production faced multiple delays, including director and script changes. The X-Men rights were then reverted back to Marvel, and all projects in development were cancelled or, in the case of Deadpool 3, reworked.
Director Shawn Levy’s upcoming entry in the Deadpool series deals with variants and the multiverse saga; a perfect opportunity to explore a universe where Tatum indeed became Gambit. He would fit in perfectly with the OG X-Men, don’t you think?
The film arrives in theaters on July 26, 2024.
