Deadpool & Wolverine will be Marvel Studios first R-rated picture, but that doesn’t mean the studio (owned by Disney) didn’t have limits for what director Shawn Levy could show in his film. Speaking with Total Film, Levy eXplained one of the things he had to leave out and how he combated it for our viewing pleasure.
“I’m so wary of what I can say but certainly there were early conversations about overt drug use,” he said about “the one thing Kevin says is off the table. Levy took advantage of Deadpool’s ability to break the 4th wall by including that note in the actual film. “We thought that was an interesting conversation. Let’s actually write a dialogue scene about having had it.”
In the scene, which features in the official trailer at the 2:18 mark, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) talks to Blind Al (Leslie Uggams) about drugs, using code-names like ‘Bolivian marching powder.’
Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26.
