After being in theaters for two weeks, the Deadpool & Wolverine crew have decided to share the more spoilery aspects of the Marvel Studios film. Director Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman took to their socials to reveal new behind the scene photos and share commentary.
Check them out (left to right): Wolverine, Blade, Gambit, Laura/X-23, Deadpool and Elektra.
“Sometimes you line up a shot and realize it’s from a dream you didn’t even know you had,” posted Levy on Instagram.
Channing Tatum as Gambit
“Gambit is a guy Chan was born to play,” wrote Reynolds on X. “His story is similar to mine in that he spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen. Remy LeBeau is grafted to his soul and needs to come out and deal. And Gambit found his author in Chan. He’s one of the coolest, smartest characters in Comics and still largely unexplored.
“I want more — and from what I saw in theaters, you do too,” he continued. “Having the chance to say goodbye to some of these heroes is as important as having new characters to root for… and rooting for Gambit is easy. Rooting for Chan is even easier. He’s one of the greatest, hardest working, kindest people in this entire industry. I couldn’t be more thrilled to see Channing Tatum pull Gambit from the dead and bring him to life at the perfect time and perfect way.”
Dafne Keen as Laura
“When Dafne Keen shows up in Deadpool & Wolverine, she shines her light toward the big beating heart of the movie,” writes Reynolds on X. “Dafne and Hugh standing next to each other is a pinch me moment. It stands on the shoulders of the LOGAN film which is both a masterpiece and a giant.
“Shawn Levy and I have been living with her every day in the edit and sound mix throughout a pretty relentless post production,” he continued. “Even three days ago as we went through the film’s gag reel. I still get geeked out seeing her in those sunglasses.
“I’m SO happy folks all around the world who’ve been carried away to a better place by Dafne and Hugh Jackman and their unbelievable performances.”
Wesley Snipes as Blade
“There is no Fox Marvel Universe or MCU without Blade first creating a market,” praised Reynolds on X. “He’s Marvel Daddy. Please retweet for a Logan-like send off.”
Jennifer Garner as Elektra
“This Jennifer Garner person. She has a blackbelt in nice, but has inside her, an unblinking hurricane of vengeance™️,” wrote Reynolds on Instagram.
“I’ve worked with Jen twice now. She brings a completely different scope of skills to each movie but can’t hide one detail… I don’t care how talented someone is, you can’t hide humanity. She’s not only one of my favourite performers, she’s one of my favourite people. I love her and I will now and always, owe her one. Or five. What a baller.”
Chris Evans as Human Torch
“Thank you to Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy for letting me be a part of such an incredible movie,” shared Evan’s. “They’re three of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Special thank you to Ryan for making it all happen. Playing Johnny again was a dream come true and he’ll always have a special place in my heart.”
Henry Cavill as Wolverine
“To be safe, I shaved the moustache off for this one. Just the moustache,” joked Henry Cavill on Instagram, who appeared as a Wolverine variant in the film. Cavill is joking about how VFX artists had to remove his mustache when filming reshoots on the Joss Whedon cut of Justice League.
