Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World doesn’t appear to be doing so great at the box office, although it isn’t a disaster. In its second weekend, director Julius Onah’s film remained at no. 1 with $28.2 million in the states (a plus) playing against horror film The Monkey ($14.2 million). That’s an unfortunate 68.3% drop, and doesn’t bode well for a long money-making run in theaters. The domestic total current stands at $141.2 million.
Internationally, it has amassed $148.2 million so far, bringing its global amount to $289.4 million (estimated).
According to Deadline, Captain America: Brave New World has a $180 million budget, meaning it’s break-even point at the box office is around $425 million. Will it play better in the long run? Critics were harsh, giving it a 49% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were kinder with 80% average, but a less than steller B- Cinemascore.
In related news, Marvel released a new clip from the film, which features the original super soldier, Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly).
