Ryan Reynolds Writing “A Little Something” Ensemble Project For Deadpool; Reveals Early Stop-Motion Pitch

Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds revealed to Time that he writing “a little something right now” involving Deadpool and “an ensemble.” Appearing on-stage at the Time 100 event, Reynolds said he feels Marvel’s merc with a mouth works best when he’s isolated. “If Deadpool becomes an Avenger, an X-Man, [then] we’re at the end,” he said. “That’s his wish fulfillment and you can’t give him that for a long time.”

When asked if there’s a chance we’ll see Deadpool as a supporting character in other MCU films, Reynolds said “I do think so. In order for a character that talks like that to work, you have to take everything away from him. His skin, his face, he’s covered in scars, he’s bald. He wears the mask out of shame, so I hijacked the first movie, I used the first movie to tell a story about shame, and then a story about family for the second movie, and this one [Deadpool & Wolverine] being about redemption

“And I think we nailed redemption, because redemption is something – one of the great American exports, I think – it’s like, when you miss something or someone, but you didn’t know you missed them,” he continued. “It’s a very unique feeling for an audience, I mean, they got a few of those in that. But I can’t take — the whole movie was an allegory for Disney buying Fox.”

Talking about the early days of development on Deadpool 3, Reynolds said he pitched “18 different movies” to Disney, one being a stop-motion film, another, a one-shot Sundance-style movie taking place in a car, with no action.
