Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige Reportedly Has 10-Year Plan For X-MEN In The MCU

The Wall Street Journal has a great writeup about Marvel Studios plans to reign in the MCU in for those who find the cinematic universe too expanded and confusing with the addition of Disney Plus shows and interconnectivity becoming more like homework for audiences. Along with that comes word of president Kevin Feige reportedly telling colleagues that he has a 10-year plan for X-Men and the mutant saga.

As part of this overhaul, Feige has taken on a more hands-on role with film development. A major part of this plan is the introduction of the X-Men into the MCU. Feige previously expressed that Deadpool & Wolverine ushers in a new mutant era.

The integration of the X-Men is not a sudden shift but a carefully orchestrated plan that will unfold over several years. Feige has indicated the narrative arc in Avengers: Doomsday leading up to Avengers: Secret Wars will set a new stage for mutants, with the X-Men playing a significant role in the future of the MCU.

This approach allows Marvel Studios to reintroduce beloved characters from the Fox-era X-Men films while laying the groundwork for a new saga. For instance, next year’s Avengers: Doomsday will feature a significant X-Men reunion, including actors like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming and Kelsey Grammer.

While specific details about the timeline remain under wraps, the deliberate pacing suggests that Marvel Studios is committed to a long-term vision for the X-Men. This approach ensures that the introduction of mutants into the MCU is handled with the depth and complexity the characters deserve. Feige’s emphasis on strategic storytelling over immediate gratification indicates a plan that spans multiple phases of the MCU. Like we always say, the X-Men is a universe in itself!
