Entrée Includes X-Men Films Fandom With A Side Of Sci-Fi & Fantasy News From Hollywood

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds is reportedly cooking up something fresh for Deadpool and fans of Marvel’s mutants. According to recent reports, Reynolds has been dedicating much of his time this year to writing, with two major projects on his desk: a new comedy for Paramount titled Boy Band, and a potential ensemble film involving characters from the X-Men universe.

What makes this new Marvel-related idea intriguing is Reynolds’ current approach: he’s exploring a story that could feature three or four X-Men characters, with Deadpool playing more of a background or supporting role. X-Force? Exiles? The thinking behind this is to give the spotlight to other Marvel characters while still having Deadpool’s chaotic energy present to stir the pot. This shift in focus could offer fans a unique perspective on charaters we haven’t seen eXplored on screen yet.

Reynolds has long emphasized that each Deadpool film needs a real purpose, and this potential X-Men-centric project could be the vehicle that checks that box. However, it’s important to note that this concept is still in the very early stages and hasn’t been officially presented to Marvel Studios.

At this point, Reynolds is developing his idea independently. Known for experimenting with different pitches (one early concept for Deadpool 3 was a road trip comedy), Reynolds is clearly not afraid to get creative before locking down a direction.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios has its own mutant plans in motion. It was last reported that The Hunger Games writer Michael Lesslie was working on a new X-Men script. There haven’t been any updates on that front, but with the inclusion of original cast members in Avengers: Doomsday (2026), one has to wonder which direction the IP will take after Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

Whether or not this mutant spin-off comes to life remains to be seen, but with Reynolds involved, you can bet it’ll be anything but conventional.
