The first official reactions to director James Gunn’s Superman are out, and they seem to be mostly positive, with many praising the film as a full-on comic book film that embraces its roots and charm. With a well-received cast and incentive action sequence, this looks to be a good start for DC Studios.

“James Gunn’s Superman is the comic book movie I’ve been waiting to see for decades,” said Erik Voss (@eavoss). “The film shines with a sense of play that, paired with kickass filmmaking, superhero cinema hasn’t seen this boldly served since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.”
“It’s possibly the most comic book-y live action comic book film ever,” praised Sean Chandler (@kirkneverdied). “It fully leans into the wacky sci-fi. It really feels like a comic book or Justice League Unlimited on screen.”
