X-Men Films And Superhero Entertainment News — Trailers, Industry Coverage, Reviews, Original Comics: SUPER (2025-), Mutant Fandom And More

The first official reactions to director James Gunn’s Superman are out, and they seem to be mostly positive, with many praising the film as a full-on comic book film that embraces its roots and charm. With a well-received cast and incentive action sequence, this looks to be a good start for DC Studios.

Superman is everything I wanted it to be, and a million things more,” wrote Jenna Anderson (@heyitsjennalynn). “It is truly awe-inspiring, both as a DC fan who has longed to see this universe onscreen in such a loving & unique way, and just as a hopeful person.”

“James Gunn’s Superman is the comic book movie I’ve been waiting to see for decades,” said Erik Voss (@eavoss). “The film shines with a sense of play that, paired with kickass filmmaking, superhero cinema hasn’t seen this boldly served since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.”

“It’s possibly the most comic book-y live action comic book film ever,” praised Sean Chandler (@kirkneverdied). “It fully leans into the wacky sci-fi. It really feels like a comic book or Justice League Unlimited on screen.”

Grace Randolph (@gracerandolph) agrees, saying “This is the BEST Superman movie to date. When James Gunn gets out of the way and lets his work speak for itself, it’s incredible. It’s not perfect, but darn close.”

Superman is a triumph for the new DC Universe,” hails Brandon Davis (@BrandonDavisBD). “It’s a comic book brought to beautiful live-action life, brimming with hope & fulfillment. It actually elicited tears of joy from me.”

Here’s a few additional reactions via.X. The review embargo lifts on Tuesday, with the film officially arriving in theaters on Thursday and Friday.
