Catching up on a story we missed from a couple weeks back…

At a panel during the Mediterrane Film Festival in Malta last month, Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier addressed the rumors about his possible involvement with Marvel’s long-anticipated X-Men reboot. While Schreier didn’t confirm any attachment to the project, his remarks sparked speculation among fans eager to see a bold new take on the iconic mutant team.

Steve Weintraub of Collider was in attendance and asked Schreier what he might approach differently if given the opportunity to lead the Marvel Studios’ mutant cinematic revival. Schreier chose his words carefully, not confirming any involvement, but made it clear that his storytelling priorities would lie in building strong character foundations from the outset.

“Even if I were confirmed on that movie, I don’t think I would be allowed to answer that question,” he admitted. “I guess what I would say is that it always starts from character and working with great writers and collaborators, and certainly thinking about how to do something different with any project that you take on. That’s as much as I can say.”

Though his comments were vague, they suggest that, if he does eventually step into the director’s chair for Marvel’s mutants, he plans to stay true to what has always made the X-Men resonate: complex, compelling characters and stories that reflect real-world struggles. For now, however, fans will have to keep waiting and speculating.
