Early Tuesday morning, Ryan Reynolds set the internet buzzing with a single post that instantly sent Marvel fans into overdrive. The Deadpool star shared an image of the Avengers logo, but with a twist! It had been spray-painted with graffiti, a cheeky touch that felt undeniably like something Wade Wilson himself would do. In true Reynolds fashion, there was no caption, no explanation, just a visual that left everyone guessing.

Naturally, speculation spread like wildfire. Was this a hint that Deadpool would finally get his long-awaited moment alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Could Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios’ upcoming ensemble film, be the stage for the Merc with a Mouth to crash the party? The idea of Deadpool interacting with the Avengers, and likely breaking the fourth wall about it, is the kind of crossover that sounds like a fun time at the movies.

Now, it seems those dreams are about to come true… with a slight twist. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision, their sources say that Deadpool will indeed make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. However, fans shouldn’t expect him to officially join the Avengers roster. Instead, it sounds like Deadpool will be doing what he does best, which is showing up uninvited, stealing scenes, and possibly leaving chaos in his wake.

But hold up! According to Deadline, their sources tell them they haven’t seen Reynolds on the film set in London, and that he isn’t set to appear in the next two Avengers movies. Apparently, Reynolds was simply sharing fan art of the logo, which originally appeared as a flag in Deadpool & Wolverine.

It would certainly be surprising if Reynolds’ merc with a mouth didn’t appear in either film directed by the Russo brothers, given the popularity of the character and the inclusion of the X-Men (at least some of them). Skipping Doomsday makes sense, but Avengers: Secret Wars too? That film hasn’t even started production yet, so best to take everything you read with a grain of salt.

Either way, this news adds another layer of excitement to an already highly anticipated film. Between its massive roster of Marvel characters, including the OG X-Men cast, and the high-stakes story implied by its title, Avengers: Doomsday is already shaping up to be a cinematic event. IF Deadpool ends up in the mix, audiences can expect an extra dose of unpredictability, and probably some meta commentary on the entire MCU itself.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently slated for a December 18, 2026 theatrical release.
