Alan Cumming had a big night at the Creative Arts Emmys, snagging the award for outstanding host of a reality competition program for The Traitors. But while celebrating his win, the actor ended up chatting with Variety about his return as Nightcrawler in Avengers: Doomsday.

When asked how he was getting ready to play the teleporting mutant again, Cumming laughed and revealed the work is already behind him. “Well, I’ve already done it. I finished it,” he said.

It’s been more than two decades since he last slipped into the role in 2002’s X2: X-Men United, but Cumming didn’t hold back when it came to the physical side of things. “I did a lot of stunt work and training. That was amazing,” he shared. “The stunt people couldn’t believe that I could get up, let alone jump around and do this boxing and training.”

Surprisingly, Cumming admitted he didn’t rewatch his first outing as Nightcrawler before filming, and he thinks that worked in his favor. “I think that was what really helped, because this is super intense, and is loads of stuff at once,” he explained.

Avengers: Doomsday teleports into theaters on December 18, 2026.
