Simon Kinberg has begun work on the screenplay for an upcoming sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, according to Superhero Hype! Kinberg is no stranger to the X-Men universe, having produced ‘First Class’ and co-written X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. No word yet if Vaughn and producer/ storymaker Bryan Singer are involved, though one would hope that 20th Century Fox would want to keep their successful formula intact.
Actor Jason Flemyng (Azazel) recently told Digital Spy “There was a benchmark that [the first film] had to hit box office-wise before they could start writing the next one, which they’ve started.” Fox wanted at least $350 million in worldwide box office to merit a sequel. The film brought in $356 million.
A sequel could make its way to theaters by 2014.

F.I.N.A.L.L.Y.
I mean, yesterday Fox announced a sequel to PLANET OF THE APES, which made about the same amount of money 350+ million worldwide.
Hopefully they will announce the FIRST CLASS sequel soon officially.
Cannot wait!
I know – so exciting!
Why 2014? It could be made for a summer or fall 2013 release (remember how fast things went with FIRST CLASS). Let’s say they have a story by the end of the year, and a screenplay ready in mid-2012. Shooting could start fall 2012 and a summer or fall release 2013 would be very possible.
Of course this would mean two X-themed films in one season, as THE WOLVERINE will probably get a May 2013 start (considering ORIGINS was shot in 2008 and released in 2009 around the same time of the year).
Anyway. That’s great news. Let’s just hope they can hold on to that quality of character development in the sequel. 2014 the world will finally learn the truth about the Kennedy assassination 🙂
I just meant we’ll likely get it before or by 2014. The wait shouldn’t be longer than 3 years. My money is on 2014. 🙂
I think they should release THE WOLVERINE and DEADPOOL in 2013 and FIRST CLASS 2 in 2014.
but its being so long three years then, it is going to be a different director or the same director to make the X-men first class 2f?? coz if there is going to be a different director you guys could be making less than a three years this x-men film of first class 2 and if there is going to be the same director you where right of three years
Glad First Class 2 is in the works! not too excited about Kinberg writing the script, he wrote X3 and that was a mess, too many characters not enough story development. he also wrote Sherlock Holmes and Mr and Mrs Smith which were good, so maybe he’ll be ok for the first draft. all I’m hoping for is that Matthew Vaughn returns as director and Jane Goldman rewrites the script if necessary and then I’ll be totally on board.
I really hope they lock in Vaughn/ Goldman too.
I REALLy hope too! X-Men First Class needs more than everything : Goldman, Vaughn and above all, Bryan Singer!
X-kid come on men think about it Simon Kinger the writter and Matthew Vaughn directing the Second film of First class 2 what more did you expect men??? this is getting to much very exciting men for all of us XMF this x-men films is a Legend a serioulsy Legend and a story men don’t you forget that coz X-men is the Legend the story and the Universe RULES YYYEESSS SR WWWUUUWWWW!!!!!!!! WAY THE GOO X-men films Universe wwuuuuwww yeeeaahh!!!
Ok two down and so many to go two i mean: if Cyclopes is turned in to a fog for the kiss of the Phoenix then Shaw smash Darwin in to a Fire with the utimate superpower of Havok how powerful is that just like i said two down and so many to go
X-Men First Class sequel with Bryan Singer and Matthew Vaughn + Henry Jackman (the soundtrack gives me chills!) + Hugh Jackman (is Wolverine yet an X-Men member before being in Weapon X program ?) and maybe some cameos of Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen (what Bryan Singer wants) : EPIC WIN ! But X-Men First Class written by one of the guys who ruined the franchise with X3 (Phoenix story messed up, Jean dead, Xavier dead and Scott dead with no symbolic messages like when Bryan Singer was in charge of everything ) = NO WAY ! C’mon Xavier is the heart and the soul of X-Men just like Magneto! However, Havok and Banshee should be older in the sequel if sequel is in 70s (I love the two actors, but the sequel needs as much as credibility as possible).
I am loving it! More Azazel and Magneto! 😉 Don’t mistake me, Charles and Beast are hott too but my heroes have always been villians!!!
