28 Years Later: The Bone Temple director Nia DaCosta is no stranger to Marvel Studios, having directed The Marvels for them. Recently she spoke with Inverse about visiting the Avengers: Doomsday set, and learning about the X-Men’s involvement.

“I’m a huge X-Men girly and I was just dying,” DaCosta said. “I remember asking Kevin [Feige], ‘What is going to happen, Kevin? What’s happening?’ It’s emotional [for] my nerd baby girl heart.”

If you recall, the credits teaser for her film featured Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) landing in the X-Men universe, meeting Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Binary (Lashana Lynch).

DaCosta also reveals that she knew about Chris Evans return as Steve Rogers way before the audience found out: “I knew that Captain America was coming back for probably years,” which confirms that his return wasn’t a last-minute decision.

Despite a somewhat negative reception to The Marvels, which does have its fans, DaCosta still maintains a strong relationship: “I’m rooting for them, and I know they’re rooting for me.”

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is now playing in theaters.
