As anticipation builds for Marvel’s next batch of major cinematic ventures, new comments confirm the studio is already thinking far beyond a single movie. In a recent conversation with Steve Weintraub of Collider ahead of Beef Season 2, director Jake Schreier opened up about how Marvel is balancing immediate priorities with long-term franchise planning.
While development on the X-Men reboot remains centered on delivering a strong first installment, Schreier made it clear that broader storytelling possibilities are very much part of the conversation. The project has already brought on notable creative talent, including writers Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, signaling Marvel’s commitment to a distinctive approach.
“I think that, obviously, first things first: We have to make one great movie,” he said. “But we always have an eye as we’re talking about it too. What are the different places this can go? What are the places that [have] been in the comics? What hasn’t been explored as much, and how can that be incorporated? And what are some of the different avenues that we could take that feel like the kind of less-trodden path that we could go down? But those ideas are always out there, as we have the discussions.”
Schreier’s remarks highlight a strategy that has become a hallmark of Marvel Studios: ensuring each film stands on its own while quietly laying the groundwork for future stories. By exploring both familiar comic book arcs and lesser-known narratives, the studio appears intent on expanding the X-Men universe in fresh and unexpected ways.
With a creative team that blends prestige television experience and bold storytelling sensibilities, the dawn of mutants in the MCU could mark the beginning of something much larger. For now, though, all eyes remain on whether the first film can deliver the kind of impact needed to launch Marvel’s next big saga.
