Famke Janssen may not be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, but the actress isn’t hiding the fact that she’d gladly return to the Marvel universe if given the opportunity. During a recent SpaceCon panel moderated by Nerdtropolis, the original X-Men star addressed speculation surrounding her involvement in the film while making it clear that she still has unfinished business with Jean Grey and the Phoenix.

Janssen reflected on portraying one of Marvel’s most powerful mutants, explaining that she never felt the films fully explored Phoenix’s potential. While comparing the role to her performance as Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye, she noted that she had far more time to develop the Bond villain than she ever did with Jean Grey’s darker alter ego.

“I really wish we had been able to explore more of that because it was such a— she’s iconic and she’s so powerful and interesting,” Janssen said.

She then revealed that she would enthusiastically return if Marvel Studios ever gave her another opportunity to play the character.

“Oh, yes,” she said. “I am ready. I am ready to show you some Phoenix, some very dark Phoenix.”

Later in the discussion, the conversation shifted to Avengers: Doomsday. Janssen reiterated that she is not part of the upcoming Marvel Studios film and joked that she would never be able to keep such a secret if she were.

“I think they made a mistake, but hey, who am I? I’m just a little me who thinks that.”

Although Janssen seemingly won’t be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, her comments leave little doubt that she would welcome another opportunity to portray Jean Grey. With Marvel Studios continuing to revisit legacy characters, many longtime fans will likely hope that this isn’t the last time they see Janssen unleash the full power of the Phoenix.
