Millie Bobby Brown is looking back on one of the biggest disappointments from her early acting career… an audition alongside Hugh Jackman that didn’t go her way.
During a recent appearance on Entertainment Weekly’s Lie vs. Lie video series, Brown revealed what she called her best audition story while playing the show’s guessing game with her Enola Holmes 3 costar, Louis Partridge.
Brown revealed that she auditioned with Hugh Jackman when she was just a preteen.
“I screen-tested with Hugh Jackman when I was like, 11 or 12,” she said, adding that it was for one of “the Wolverine movies.”
When asked how she felt after the audition, Brown didn’t hide her disappointment. “Broken,” she said. “I felt like I probably didn’t get it, because I think there was someone else that was better.”
Partridge correctly guessed that Brown’s story was true, noting that her age at the time matched the casting for X-23 in Logan. Brown then confirmed the role she had been auditioning for.
“It’s true. And it was for Logan. I just thought to throw you off with the Wolverine movies.”
The role of X-23 ultimately went to Dafne Keen, who later reprised the fan-favorite character in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Although Brown didn’t join the Marvel universe, her own breakout role wasn’t far behind. She became a global star as Eleven in Netflix’s Stranger Things, portraying the powerful young heroine throughout the series’ five-season run.
