Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot may have found the actor to lead its legendary team. According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Kit Connor is in talks to play Scott Summers, better known to Marvel fans as Cyclops. While Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm the casting, the report suggests Connor has emerged as the studio’s top choice following an extensive search for the iconic mutant leader.

Director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige met with multiple candidates over the past several months before ultimately deciding Connor was the right fit for the role. The outlet also notes that a select group of actors participated in final screen tests after the July 4 holiday, with Connor reportedly standing out during the process.

Cyclops has been one of the most important characters in X-Men history since the team’s comic book debut in 1963. As the field leader of the X-Men, Scott Summers is known for his disciplined leadership and powerful optic blasts, which he controls through his signature ruby-quartz visor. The role will carry one of the franchise’s most recognizable and influential heroes into a new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Connor would follow in the footsteps of James Marsden and Tye Sheridan, who previously portrayed Cyclops on the big screen. Marsden is already set to return as his version of the character in Avengers: Doomsday, making Connor’s reported casting an opportunity to introduce a fresh interpretation for the MCU’s rebooted mutant saga.

The reported casting also continues to build excitement around the project. Following reports that Samara Weaving is expected to play Emma Frost, and with Sadie Sink’s casting as Jean, the potential addition of Connor as Cyclops suggests the studio is assembling the core members fans know and love. With Schreier helming, and a creative team that includes Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo (Beef) developing the screenplay, anticipation continues to grow as we wait for Marvel Studios to officially unveil its next generation of X-Men, rumored for D23 next week.

Connor has quickly become one of Hollywood’s brightest young stars thanks to his breakout performance in Heartstopper. He has since expanded into major film projects, including Alex Garland’s Warfare and the upcoming Elden Ring adaptation. If Deadline’s report proves accurate, stepping into the role of Cyclops would mark the biggest milestone of his career and position him at the center of one of Marvel Studios’ most anticipated franchises.
