Huffington Post caught up with recently announced actor Ian McKellen, who’s returning as Magneto, along with Patrick Stewart as Professor X, in Brian Singer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. McKellen definitely sounds excited to return, saying…
“[Patrick Stewart and I] can’t believe it [laughs]. I thought these were Fassbender and McAvoy’s parts, but — no, no — we’re back. We’ll give them a run for their money. I mean, I haven’t read the script, so I don’t know how much we’ve got to do. But, to be back in that world, and for Bryan to be doing it — with all the success he’s had in the meantime — it’s wonderful. Wonderful.”
Calling Michael Fassbender’s performance as the younger Magneto, “first class” and “excellent,” McKellen continued… “I thought he was better than me. But, we weren’t quite playing the same character because he was so much younger than me. And the scope of Magneto, one day a Jewish actor will play it. Clearly, he’s Jewish. We first meet him in at Auschwitz and there’s scope for all sorts of people to pay Magneto. But, I was just the lucky guy who got to play him first.”
#DOFP comes to cinemas on July 18, 2014.

I’m so excited for this movie! I am sure some people will say that its a shame they aren’t doing a straight sequel only focusing on the first class cast, but honestly I think that would be kinda boring. They already established the young versions of the characters in first class there isnt much left to do there, they can already push them to the characters we know without it taking up an entire sequel. This is different and exciting and is much better than a putting rehash of first class 1 out there. I also love that we are finally after 7/8 years we are finally getting sorta of sequels to X3. Its about damn time. Warning big rant of my hopes for the X-Movies going forward. With Days of Future Past serving as a good middle, cross over based movie, and with Bryan Singer back in the fold as director (finally!) Here is hoping that Days of future past not only sets up First Class 3(to hopefully be directed by Vaughn!) but also leads to the so the much wanted and waited X4 and X5(hopefully filmed together and directed by Singer!) that can wrap up the entire series all together. That would give the X series 10 movies! With all the super hero reboots going around that would be nice, and getting 10 movies and 15/20 years out of this batch of X-Men cast and stories would be amazing and never done with a movie franchise before. Then they can wait the proper amount of time (another 10, 15, or even 20 years) and reboot X-Men, giving a super hero movie franchise a proper reboot. I really hope that all this happens but we will have to see where Days of Future Past takes us.
This is already X4. More fans want to see the return of the original trilogy actors, Vaughn has already shown how unreliable he is at staying at a movie series. He dropped out of X3, was supposed to do Thor for Marvel Studios which did not work out, then makes First Class, and then drops out again. With Byran Singer’s return, I think we will see an X4 and X5,
I’m glad we got at least one film out of Vaughn, lol. If he ends up doing Star Wars, they better lock him in a contract for multiple films upfront.
If Rebbeca Rumming stamos Return to Play again her rule of Mystique that would be so wonderful coz she is so awesome and so mysterious her Voice and that,s includes her Body and Eyes and that includes the other ones that is Jubilee and colossus that,s all i hope to see them coz theyre so incredible and so interesting so as Nightcrawler that is extremely awesome more than anyone else so its him i mean(nightcrawler), Mystique Jubilee and the last and not least is Colossus the ultimate super powerful ones so awesome
Oh and Ant sorry for the long comment but I had to get that out of my mind hahaha
Awesome comment. Agreed with everything you said 🙂
This was not quite the direct quotes that Sir Ian told the Huffington Post, I read the article. But no matter. His delight at returning is well founded. More and more it sounds like they want to get rid of X3 from the film series continunity.
this is super exciting for those who care to returned to the sequel of X-men universe this is make me in shock an ride away super ultimate Awesome WoW!!!!! way the go X-men Universe WUUUUWWWW!!!!
I am not sure about this film yet. It seems too much for a film to carry. In fact I dislike the timetravel and alternate reality aspect. The AVENGERS universe can deal with that. The aspect I loved about all the previous X-Men films was, that aside from the mutations, they kept a credible setting. DAYS will abondon that concept. A shame.
I am much more looking forward to THE WOLVERINE which I hope will be grounded in reality. The director already mentioned it is BOURNE and DARK KNIGHT in style and motif. That’s the way to go! We do not need another Marvel copy.
I don’t care that much about The Wolverine. I am pumped about X-Men DOFP… just hope they do it justice. I still disagree with you about the fact that they should not try to expand and think bigger as a franchise. For instance doing time travel. Again the X-MEN movies need to reflect the comics and the comic universe, not copy story but reflect and the universe is huge. It’s about time they are taking these epic characters to the next level. Now keep going powers that be.
