Time Travel Explained

DOFP writer Simon Kinberg told media during a SDCC press conference that “Kitty [Pryde] is the one who sends someone back in time and so as people will see… Wolverine goes back in time.”

“Basically the notion is Hugh of the future is sent … his conscienceness… is sent into his younger self [and] Hugh gets to play both parts because he is ageless,” further explained director Bryan Singer.

Existing in the 70’s portion of the film, Bryan Singer says that Quicksilver was always a part of the story. Actor Evan Peters said that his character “moves and talks quick and gets impatient. He’s always at an ATM, waiting for the guy in front of him to finish.”

Bryan Singer and the cast of DAYS OF FUTURE PAST took the stage. Singer told attendees that no visual effects were complete, with the film having about another month to go. Regardless, some footage was presented…in 3D, no less.

The DOFP footage shows random shots of original trilogy X-Men members. “I had a glimpse into the past.” says Xavier. Shots of Iceman, Rogue, Bishop. Xavier says “You’re going to have to do to me what I once did for you” to Wolverine. Magneto says “Side by side to end this war before it ever begins.” Wolverine is sent to the past in his own body. Stewart’s Xavier warns him “Logan, I was a very different man then. Lead me. Guide me. Be patient with me.” Logan quirks “Patience isn’t one of my strong points.” Fan Bingbing’s Blink, with special eye markings, is shown standing against a backdrop of fire. McAvoy’s Xavier yells “I don’t want your suffering. I don’t want your future!” “Please.” says Stewart’s Xavier. “We need you to hope again.”

‘The Wolverine’ panel.

*Hugh Jackman says fans will finally see Logan’s berserker rage to the max and that the character’s saving grace and Kryptonite are women. He also noted that the adamantium blades were redesigned to look closer to the Claremont/Miller comic book arc.

*Director James Mangold calls THE WOLVERINE a “tough guy” movie like “3:10 to Yuma” with more “intense” action than previous X-Men films.

Jeff Wadlow talks X-Force

XFORCE-logo
Jeff Wadlow briefly spoke about writing and potentially directing X-FORCE to Cinema Blend at SDCC: “I’m pretty deep into [the script]. I have the whole story completely worked out. I’m about 20 pages into my draft. If I wasn’t promoting Kick-Ass, I would probably have a draft [already], but Kick-Ass is going to slow me down just a little.”

On which incarnation of the comic book title he’s pulling from: “Here’s the thing, I love the current run of Uncanny X-Force. I love the classic run. Part of my take was addressing this idea that X-Force can be many different things, and that’s what got the studio excited. I think the fans will be excited, too.”
