I gave 85% due to its 60% conversation and 40% incredible pulse pounding fighting scenes and magnificent after credits. 😀
here’s my review of it, warning of spoilers.. 😀

Without going into much detail;
I will give the film out of 10 a 7.5
The reason being one it was a tad long, maybe their little honeymoon (marioko and Logan) scene could have been cut or even the final battle don’t know how…
Second due to something which upset along with me many Jean Grey fans.
You should know I’m speaking as if everyone has seen this film because come on, why would you go on this certain subject of the website if you haven’t seen the film?
Jean’s ‘send off’ was a bit depressing as I thought maybe somehow she could return for DOFP but seeing as she walked into the light door thing I was bummed.
If you guys noticed she said ‘I’m all alone..’ Implying that Scott isn’t dead and will therefor confirm his rumour about him in DOFP! One good thing I guess?
Also uhm Viper? What the actual *****? Her random hissing when se runs made me laugh and her whole peeling skin made me ponder what she was…someone enlighten me!
Also the multiple swears offs in the film haha loved it!
But really I loved the whole modern interpretation of the silver samurai! Respect!
Overall a improvement from their failure with the first film but the Jean thing was what made me re think the film. I’m odd like that and n love Famke haha
Also bone claws? What?
I was also a little concerned about the Jean thing, but I came to a realization that maaay alleviate your issue with it and perhaps earn it a few points back in your grading scale:
So at first I saw his visions of her as confirming her death, and therefore implying what could happen in future movies. I also noticed and was half-pleased to hear her comment about “I’m all alone”.
HOWEVER: I realized, this is NOT Jean. Not in any way. This is not her dead spirit talking to Wolverine. This is all taking place inside Wolverine’s head, with Jean representing the things/people he’s loved that he has outlived, and therefore his motivation to seek death. Furthermore, the real Jean would NEVER try to persuade wolverine to “join her” or say she is “all alone”. This was simply Wolverine’s own mind tricks.
Therefore, her personality should not be seen negatively and is no representation of Jean at all…. in fact, this does not even have to mean that Jean is dead!
Let me know what you think 🙂
That is so true, she loved Scott alot but why would she suddenly be all over wolverine?
But the directors and pretty much everyone said that she was a presence etc, so is that her or not?
for some reason it won’t let me respond directly to your comment.. hope you see this!
but yeah she is a PRESENCE. As in a presence in wolverine’s mind. A hallucination resulting from his mental ties to her. Obviously I can’t speak for the writers here, but in my mind the more I think about it the more sure I am that it his just his imagination. The more I think about it, the more i’m going wait “why WOULD it be her?” if she’s dead, i don’t think they’d have her communicating from “heaven”… If she’s alive (and therefore able to communicate telepathically), then she wouldn’t be trying to have wolverine die to “join her”. I suppose you could say “maybe she transferred a piece of her consciousness into wolverine right before he killed her”, but even then she would in actuality be trying to convince him to LIVE his life with a purpose. That’s not Jean. Just the embodiment of Wolverine’s desire to join the ones he loves. Feel free to argue 🙂
@ dpton
You have never been in real love I guess…
I met the woman of my life once, we had a great summer, then she met someone else… and guess what, years passed and yet I keep dreaming about her… 😉
True love never dies!
@xavierstorma
Well true love may not die, but people do! I may not quite be understanding your point in relation to the discussion though, sorry!
Jean = Logan’s true love. Period. He will never get over her.
Sure- but Wolverine didn’t necessarily get over. I’m not totally sure I understand your complaint anymore- is it that Wolverine seemingly denied Jean?
If that’s the case, wouldn’t you agree you can move on with your life even after losing the one you love? As I said, that was not the real Jean he was seeing in her mind, but rather a symbol of things/people he’s loved that he has outlived. When he basically turns her down that’s not him FORGETTING or DENYING Jean as a person, that’s him refusing to continue to be tormented by what he has lost to the point where he cannot live his life- he realizes that there are other things worth living for…(more or less the point of the movie, right?)
Note that he does not even choose to stay with Mariko, it’s not like he replaced Jean and settled.
I loved it. I loved Origins but TW was better. Dark, serious and yes violent. I am going to see it again tonight.
Just returned from the preview here in Germany. I am overwhelmed, satisfied, my expectations have not only been met, no, they were outdone!
What a film… Not an X-Men film. Not even a superhero film. Forget that “let’s save Earth” crap. Wolverine IS a character piece. Logan is alone, he is without a cause, and full of regret. They nailed the character in this film.
Do not believe the bad reviews, they have no idea!
And yes, they push the PG13 to the limits, believe me, sometimes I was “uhhh… PG13? What were they smoking”. And there IS blood in this film, but I can also see where the unrated cut will show of more claws… ermmm…. bones….
The film is not only action, it really drives into the characters, and it has some very beautiful and peaceful scenes in it! Don’t expect an action overkill!
Be aware of HUGE SPOILERS!!!
There are only 3 (!!!!) mutants in the film. Logan, Yukio and Viper.
The plot is resolved in the thrid act, up until then, you will have no clue what the black ninja are actually working towards to. Yashida is the Sivler Samurai, and he tries to steal Logans powers.
Logan looses his metal claws in the finale, his bone clows regrow, and he is left with them.
X-MEN ORIGINS WOLVERINE is not ignored, on the contrary…
BIG SPOILER for DAYS OF THE FUTURE PAST:
The last scene (after the credits), shows Logan two years later on an American air port, when suddendly all metal items go into the air. Logan realises what this means and turns to look straight into Old Magento’s (Ian McKellen’s) face! Magneto asks him for help. Logan answers he won’t work with him, then suddenly time freezes. Logan turns and Xavier on his wheel chair enters the hall. Magneto and Xavier work together. Logan says that he saw Xavier die, Xavier responds, that it is not only Logan, who has special abilities, the screen fades to black.
People, go out and watch this film. It is awesome. I booked the tickets for tomorrow evening.
10/10 stars.
I caved in and read your posts before actually seeing the movie…I’m so weak. 🙁
Loving everything I’m reading though.
Have to wait until Saturday to see. Ugh.
Believe me, it is so awesome. I have seen the movie twice already. I liked it even more the second time around.
This is the definate WOLVERINE movie, and I cannot await a sequel. Especially with the new team up Yukio/Logan. Those two could really kick some ass in the world.
the only thing disappoint me is the SIlver Samurai. They shouldn’t name Harada, ‘HARADA’ if he can’t charge his weapon with Tachylon energy and become a silver samurai.
The fighting scenes were superb I can tell you that.. and as for Jean Grey, FAMKE JANSSEN was really great even though its only a cameo flash back hallucination scene only. I thought on the last part, she going to burst into a white flame and become a white phoenix of the crown..
About Jean:
Am I the only one who thought this was not Wolverine hallucinating and it was Jean in his mind. I feel like her scenes were genuine and they showed more of the relationship between her and Logan. Yes she loved Scott, but you can’t help to admit there was a spark between her and Logan too. I feel like she was contacting him telepathically from the Hot White Room and the reason for the torment is because even though she’s in the Hot White Room she still cannot control the Phoenix force. Notice how she says, “I’m all alone”. To me that just straight up meant she isn’t dead, but alone in that dimension. The Phoenix does revive and rises from the ashes afterall. She was wearing a white gown in all of her scenes maybe hinting at a White Phoenix coming back. Also, like the poster said why would she be ‘all alone’ if Scott is suppose to be dead?
as far as i remember.. they cut the scene were Logan and the ninjas are fighting and he stab something that explodes all around them.. like in the trailer.. and also when Yashida tells Viper that she is not ready to die yet..
yes ! Fighting scene of Logan and Ninjas would be longer, There were , ninjas with chain, motorcycles, an explosion in the trailer. What happened this scenes? Anyway film was just great!
yeah. and the chains too. dang, it should be in dvd and make it unrated.
ok, ok, ok people get REAL The Wolverine was NOT a good movie its didnt make no sence at all. What’s up with Viper she was waist of film there was no other mutants useing there power. Huge is a good actor but the END OF THE FILMS WAS THE BEST PART I CANT WANT FOR NEXT YEAR.
It was easily the BEST superhero movie this year. Main focus on the character, good action scenes, which were NEVER constructed or silly.
3 mutants only is something positive!
Great direction , great cinematography.
Demand!!! If you consider films like AVENGERS or IRON MAN 3 good movies, and you expect one CGI effect after another… I bet you were disappointed with THE WOLVERINE.
It’s comments like yours above that make me take whatever you say with a grain of salt. Avengers was a great movie, probably one of the best superhero movies to ever be produced. If you don’t believe me, look at the box office numbers. Same with Iron Man 3. Does that automatically disqualify me from liking Wolverine? No it doesn’t. Just because a person likes the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn’t mean they can’t like what Fox does either. Stop pitting the two franchises against each other. They’re not even part of the same universe at this point. The Wolverine was a good movie and for me to say that it had to be because I don’t like Wolverine as a character.
Dumb movies make money. Just like dumb TV is successful.
Not that I camm AVENGERS dumb, but even the most simple minded person will “get” this film.
I want a certain amount of demand from the films I watch. It is so refreshing to have a “blockbuster” title – a comic book movie – which has an actual plot (admit it: TRANSFORMERS, AVENGERS, BATTLESHIP are all one and the same film).
You can’t even compare Transformers to Avengers,, or even Battleship to Avengers.. they’re not even the same genres. Just because you didn’t like a certain movie doesn’t mean it was garbage.
The Wolverine is a good movie. Not the best but not also bad.. It was good. Fighting scenes are new and Wolverine in this film is much darker and violent and I like it. 😀
I quite enjoyed The Wolverine.
At it’s core it’s a movie about regret and mortality that happily mixes comicbook action excess with genuine human introspection, without ever feeling the need to apologize for either. It never quite manages to be anymore than equal to the sum of its parts but, when those parts are as strong as they are here, you still end up with a bloody good movie.
Ultimately it all comes down to Hugh Jackman though, and he has simply never been better in this role. He plays it like he’s the product of some unholy conjoining of Clint Eastwood and Steve McQueen. Just fantastic!
This is the Wolverine movie they should have made in the first place, and had it been I firmly believe that the handful of dissenting voices wouldn’t be issuing much dissent at all.
If Bryan Singer manages to pull off Days of Future Past, then FOX might actually have gotten their X-Men movie-verse back on track…
Ok people look that was not a good movie what wrong with u people i love Huge to he’s sexy i know that but this movie was too long no good action boreding. How can u enjoy a movie that don’t make no sense
dude, the movie became boring because of those nonsense conversation and less action. But some action was superb. I think you missed Yukio’s fighting scenes. The bullet train fight. Viper showing her powers (which is too short for me and it disappoint me allot).
Great Movie. Four stars. It placed character development above the action scenes. Better then Man of Steel, Lone Ranger, and Pacific Rimm. Effects films that had no soul.
I wouldn’t agree as regards Pacific Rim, but otherwise yes!
Am I the only one that is bummed that they cut off the love scene between Mariko and Logan and also the scene between logan fighting the ninjas? I hope they show it on the dvd instead.
Anyways overall this is a great film watched it twice and was breathless at the train scene , dont see why the critics hated this scene that much. Im giving this film a 9/10
