First official look at Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler!

Marking the start of production on X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, 20th Century reveals its first look at Kodi Smit-McPhee as the resident teleporter, Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler. He will play a younger version of the fan-favorite character who was last portrayed by Alan Cumming in X2.

The actor was spotted filming alongside Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheriden (Cyclops) and Lana Condor (Jubilee) inside a shopping mall full of extras. The troupe were decked out in perfect 1983 fashion, with Nightcrawler having a knack for Michael Jackson and Jubilee sporting big 80’s hair.

Alexandra Shipp (Storm) was missing-in-action, making some wonder if the weather-manipulating mutant is even an X-Man in 1983. Perhaps she’s wrecking havoc as one of Apocalypse’s four horsemen or a member of Magneto’s brotherhood?

Director Bryan Singer and writer/producer Simon Kinberg also snapped pics of a theater marquee prop displaying ‘Return of the Jedi,’ which released on May 25, 1983.

Stay tuned for updates on production as they come in.

Apocalypse reigns on May 27, 2016.
