Bryan Singer revealed today that the mutant Caliban plays a role in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. The director instagrammed a new photo from the film’s Montreal set, teasing “Caliban’s place of business.”
Created by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum, Caliban first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #148 on August 1981. He’s recruited by Callisto to find other mutants using his psionic-sensing abilities, forming an underground community called the Morlocks. He’s been affiliated with X-Men, X-Force, X-Factor and the villainous Apocalypse as the Horseman of Death. His form was genetically altered by Apocalypse, drastically increasing his size and strength.
No word on which actor is portraying Caliban. Whether the character requires prosthetics or CG remains to be see.
Production on the film continues through September in Montreal for a May 27, 2016 theatrical release.
