Alexandra Shipp appears in the latest issue of VVV Magazine to promote her upcoming role as Storm in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. The actress says that coming into the long-standing history of the X-Men films was “pretty exciting! Everyone is so welcoming. It really feels like a family or even a fraternity? I’m now just working on a secret handshake.”
Maybe she’ll get to use that handshake on director Bryan Singer for an inevitable follow-up film? “Bryan is such a brilliant director,” she says. “It was so awesome getting to work with him. He has such a great mind. I’m lucky I got a chance to witness it first-hand.”
Portraying a younger version of Halle Berry’s Storm, Shipp says the time-altering effects of ‘Days of Future Past’ gave her the opportunity to try something new with the character.
“Well, our past selves are inevitably going to be different, so I tried to go less ‘confident’ Storm. You almost find her in the gutter and that had [an interesting] start point for me. I’m excited for people to see a little of where Storm came from!”
A growing fan of Storm, Shipp says she was aware of the character before being cast, saying “I knew Storm from a few comics and from the movies. I loved her because I always wanted to be a superhero and she looked like me minus the muscles, white hair and blue eyes!”
