After speaking at the University of Huddersfield, Professor Xavier actor Sir Patrick Stewart spoke briefly with ITV (click link for video) about his role in Hugh Jackman’s upcoming WOLVERINE: WEAPON X finale.
“I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me,” he said. “But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it’s the end, it’s over.”
Production has been going smoothly with director James Mangold and cast in New Orleans and New Mexico, among other locations. The film is said to take place in the future with an older and disheveled looking Xavier and Wolverine helping a young mutant escape the throws of an evil research facility.
“I’ll play a ‘very different Charles Xavier… nothing like the Charles Xavier you’ve seen in the past.”
Previously seen paparazzi photos have shown Xavier looking a bit rough, but Stewart’s comments make it sound like Xavier’s attitude might have drastically changed from previous films in the franchise. Remember, this is a post-DOFP Xavier. Just how different will he be? We’ll have to wait and see.
Supporting cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and a young child actress who’s rumored to play Laura Kinney aka X-23, Wolverine’s clone and successor.
