Coming Soon/Superhero Hype has an exclusive animatic from director Josh Boone’s developing NEW MUTANTS

The sequence, drawn by artist Ashley Guillory, features Magik (Colossus’ younger sister in the comics) with the dragon Lockheed on her shoulder, fighting against the main antagonist Demon Bear. You can also see Dani Moonstar, Wolfsbane and Cannonball in the clip.

Sources close to production tell the site that the film will be very different from previous X-Men movies and is being described as a “Stephen King meets John Hughes”-style horror movie.

Rumored actors for the upcoming production include Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars) as Cannonball and previously-speculated Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik and Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane. James McAvoy’s Professor Xavier and Alexandra Shipp’s Storm were also rumored at one point, though the validity of that still remains unknown.

Boone wrote the initial script with Knate Lee (Kidnap), which then was updated with his “The Fault in Our Stars” writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.

Production is expected to gear up later in 2017 for a possible Spring/Summer 2018 release.
