20th Century Fox has confirmed that Channing Tatum’s GAMBIT solo film will be a Valentine’s Day release, arriving in theaters on February 14, 2019 (yes, that’s a Thursday).
Gore Verbinski (A Cure for Wellness) has also officially signed as director.
According to Omega Underground, the production will keep its working title of “Chess” while filming. This title was being use when Rupert Wyatt was originally signed to helm the X-Men spin-off in Louisiana.
This has been a long road for “Gambit,” as Tatum was teasing the film for some time, even promoting it at 2015’s Comic Con in San Diego. They originally planned for an October 2016 release until the loss of directors and script changes took precedence. Now things are back on track and, according to Tatum, the screenplay has evolved into something better after the successful releases of “Deadpool” and “Logan”.
